Night Fishing Torch - L979.D.008

Also known as an iron jacklight, this night torch measures 76cm tall, 25cm wide, and 49cm in length.

Indigenous fishermen used lit torches of bark and pine pitch to attract fish to their canoe at night. The fish would be speared or shot with arrows. This framework held the burning bark, and would have been fastened to the front of the canoe.
